LARYNGEAL SYMPTOM ANS SIGNS IN BUS-GIRLS

Abstract
The peculiar voice changes among the bus-girls has been long recognized. They have to work 15 hours in average in a day with their yellings, and still there are neither medical nor social attentions for this serious problems.
This is a clinical observation report on this problem with 454 bus-girls who visited our clinic during the period of three weeks from Aug. 1,1963 for their routine check-ups.
1. Age: From 18 to 32 years old. Among them,18 years group has a largest number (162-37.5% )
2. Service records:
1 month or less: 65(14.3%)
2 months to 11 months: 142(31.2% )
1 year: 104(22.9% )
2 years or less: 100(22.0% )
3 years or less: 39(8.6% )
4 years: 4(0.9% )
3. Among 454 subjects, 184 girls(40.5% ) has a subjective complain of hoarseness, in which 70.7%has revealed various laryngeal signs.
4. Among 454 subjects,162 girls has laryngeal signs ,such as cords hyperemia and/or hypertrophy(91 cases),vocal nodules(22 casesl, motor disturbances of cords with or without cord hypertrophy(21 cases), and acute local inflammations(23 cases).
5. It seemed that the longer the service period severerer the laryngeal signs, and the occurrence of hoarseness is more prominent in those who serves more than one year
